Slovenia - Part 1
13.07.2010 - 22.07.2010

From the last post I am going to jump forward a few years to these next images.
They were actually shot at Lake Bled in Slovenia just a few weeks ago. I went on a 10 day trip basing myself in the capital, Ljubljana. From here I went on many different trips to different parts of Slovenia.
The most beautiful destination within Slovenia was most definitely Lake Bled. Situated in the North East of the small country it took only a short bus ride to be amongst the Julian Alps and at the side of this fantastically pristine lake.
The first image shows a reflective view of the Bled Island Church. The Island is placed neatly within the centre of the northen end of the lake and can be reached by rowing boat (which can be hired at €10 per hour), by pletna (with which prices vary by owner, from €10 to €20 per person) or even by swimming.
There are designated swimming areas situated around the lake and a summers day can easily pass by relaxing on the shores and paddling around the lake.
The second image here shows one of the Pletna boats crossing the lake with Bled Castle towering over all. Bled offers such a wide variety of views within such a small area. Walking up to the castle provides a great aerial view of the lake and the island offering a tranquil and relaxing experience.
Taking a stroll around the lake is a great way to take everything in or it is possible to hire bikes from just outside the bus station. The other option of getting around the lake is to take the Tourist Train which actually takes you up around the road route in which you see some of the local culture and get a general feel of the relaxed lifestyle the Slovenians lead.
Overall Lake Bled is a place that should defiantly be on any European Travellers list of places to go. Even if its just a quick visit upon passing through its defiantly worth at least a few hours to appreciate the pure natural beauty of the area.
